Planning for her own retirement as well as that of her employees has been an interesting and educating journey. Becki will share with the participants information on why retirement planning needs to be a top priority TODAY, what the various options are for both people who work alone and those who have employees. If picking the right plan is the first step, then knowing what products to use to fund it is second. During the hour, Becki will cover why, how and with what.

Becki is an independent contractor agent with State Farm Insurance Company, running her own agency since 1991 and she currently has four employees. Becki provides Insurance and Financial Services to her clients. She also co-owns Heather Square, LLC, which is an office building in Toledo.

Barb has been in banking since 1969 and has been employed since June, 2009, by Signature Bank N. A. Signature Bank opened in April of 2002 and is located in Toledo, Ohio. Ann Duez is the owner of the Victorian Inn and spends much of her time with community- and civic-involvement to work on projects to help bring economic development and tourism to the Ottawa County region. She is the current President of the Marblehead Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. In addition, Ann is Past Vice President of the Marblehead Peninsula Chamber of Commerce; Past President of the Ottawa County Regional Welcome Center; Past Vice President of the Ottawa County Regional Welcome Center; Past Treasurer of the Port Clinton Area Bed and Breakfast Association; graduate of Leadership of Ottawa County Class 2006-2007; member of Steering Committee for the Ottawa County County Customer Service Program; and member of The Port Clinton Area Professional Business Women Association. Ann has received the Dale S. Kirpatrick Award May 2008 from the Marblehead Chamber of Commerce and the award for Chamber of Commerce Bright Star 2008 presented by the North Ohio Area Chamber of Commerce. Kim Godfrey is currently the owner of Always Genuine Events, a local business that provides consulting, planning and theme design services for all types of social occasions, business occasions and events, and community special events and fundraisers. Kim has successfully organized the Gem Beach Events for the United Way for the last 2 years. Prior to starting her business, Kim spent 22 years in retail management at the store, district, regional, and corporate levels specializing in visual merchandising and project management. Kim has over 27 years experience in managing people , building teams and creating a positive customer experience.

Her clients are as small as self-employed business owners, political candidates and consultants all the way up to large non-profits and international corporations. Amy's goal with aha creative is to provide garden-fresh ideas to fit any budget; she believes even the smallest business can get a professional, memorable image and that maintaining and believing in that image will make a lasting impression to prospective clients and customers.

Attendees will learn how to read a patent document and gain general knowledge on protecting their inventions via the patent process. Basics of copyrights and trademarks, and the role of each in a small business, will also be discussed.

Liza J.M. Heinig, J.D., P.E. (D.C.) is an associate at Tarolli, Sundheim, Covell & Tummino LLP, a Cleveland intellectual property law firm. She is a mechanical engineer who has prepared and prosecuted numerous U.S. and foreign patent applications in technologies including heavy equipment, biomechanical and medical devices, and manufacturing processes and equipment. Liza enjoys working closely with individual inventors and advising clients on leveraging intellectual property for the benefit of their business.

Anita Fitch Khayat, PhD, MBA

Ms. Khayat spent over 25 years in the healthcare field, initially as a director of clinical laboratory services, then as vice president of professional services and medical affairs at a large teaching hospital, and for the last 14 years of her career as the chief executive officer for a network of hospitals and medical centers in North America, Australia, New Zealand and Europe, sponsored by the National Cancer Institute to conduct clinical trials in pediatric cancer research, with national headquarters in Arcadia, CA. She also has been involved in the start up of two small businesses, one for-profit and one non-profit. She moved back to Cleveland from California in 2007 and works part-time as a consultant, as well as counseling at SCORE Chapter 30 in Cleveland. She is the immediate past chair of SCORE Cleveland.

SCORE is a national organization made up entirely of volunteers. It is a resource partner of the Small Business Administration that provides free business counseling to existing and new business owners. SCORE members are retired or semi-retired business men and women who have either owned their own businesses or have had leadership roles in small to medium-sized businesses. Each chapter of SCORE has counselors who will assist clients in developing business plans, marketing strategies, financial plans and analyses of operations in addition to lending their special expertise, which may include such areas as accountancy, finance, manufacturing, marketing, public relations, sales, health care, social services, legal services, etc. for both non-profit and for profit businesses.

Joy's session will focus on how to implement and customize Quickbooks' software for your small business needs. She will review all the necessary documentation that you need to be prepared for tax time. In addition, information will be provided on tax planning strategies, types of companies (LLC versus S Corp), financial forecasting and revenue modeling.

Joy Skarupa of RoseLine, LLC has been a professional bookkeeper for 9 years. While initially specializing in bookkeeping for real estate investors and other real estate professionals, she has grown her business to offer bookkeeping, forecasting and budgeting to multiple types of small business owners. Currently she has clients that are recruiters, coaches, proposal organizers and real estate investors. She has clients that are nation-wide and offers all of her services as a virtual assistant. Joy is also a real estate agent with Century 21, Mike Myers Realty, Inc. Joy is the co-coordinator of the herstory on business retreat with Amy Heflinger.

Although I began playing flute in the school band, I realized in college that it was more fun to sing and play my favorite songs on guitar. I am blessed to be surrounded by musician friends and family who have been my primary audience and my greatest teachers.
